Zac - written by Zac
I was lucky growing up that our family had friends whose 250 acre farm included three excellent and private beaches. We went and camped there a few times during the summer holidays, with our next door neighbours. (Unfortunately for mum, dad left her after falling in love with the woman next door). However, most of the time we spent there was nude; at least for us kids. I loved it. Running around, swimming, jumping over the sand dunes. We went to a lagoon and fished and kayaked. Tried to catch a possum using Weetbix as bait - of course it never worked. We even caught a different bus to school once it started.
One day, Mum kept telling me to put some clothes on as I was getting redder and redder, but I didn't listen, and ended up with a big blister on my bum! Luckily it didn't pop on the way home, and in the shower she snipped open it for me. That still never put me off going nude, although I would make the mistake of doing it in winter sometimes on a sunny day, then wonder why I came down with a cold. Live and learn, eh?
But I never really got into it again until I moved from Auckland to Wellington. I started visiting a well-known nude beach facing the South Island - Breaker Bay. Now, interestingly, in New Zealand there are
no actual legal nude beaches anywhere. The reason is, that you can go nude wherever you wish so long as no one finds it offensive. If you walk down the middle of a city street starkers, then expect to get arrested. But if you are at one end of a beach, and not doing anything that would be interpreted as obscene, then it is okay. The onus is on the police to prove your intent was to provoke offense. Nevertheless, there are a number of places where there have been nudists for so long, that no one minds in the slightest (except someone with a hobby horse to ride tries to get bans put in place sometimes). Breaker Bay is used by naturists, gays, Free Beach members (of which I am one) NZ Naturist sun club members, and whoever fancies being nude. Mostly males, but on a hot summer's day, woman and sometimes families.
I find the water is usually too cold to swim there, but the view out over Cook Strait is unbeatable. You can watch the ferries ply between the North and South Islands, and aircraft fly into the nearby airport.
I also go to spa nights at an aquatic centre in Kilbirnie and usually dinner with the group afterwards. Sometimes swim night as well, although the pool is tepid and the kids' spa not much warmer. I suggested to one of the Welly sunclub officers (they are holding this year's rally) to hire out the Upper Hutt pool complex for the rally. It would be fantastic to go down the tube/slide nude. Bring it on!
I also go to my local beach, around the rocks at the south end (the usual story) to sunbathe nude in summer. It is really peaceful and pleasant. As for getting erections, the main problem that seems to worry guys, well, there's a number of things you can do. Cover up, roll over onto your stomach till it goes down, or make a joke about it: "Oops, forgot to leave my walking stick at home." Because really, it is a natural occurence, and if you think about it for a moment, if your father never had one, you wouldn't exist. Again, it comes down to your intent. If you stand and show off or get your rocks off in front of others, then be prepared to take the consequences. If it is just a natural reaction to... oh, let's see... warmth, sun, sea, air, the sight of others nude, nerves, etc then chill out. I mean for teens especially, anything can trigger an erection - sometimes, even nothing! I have had it happen in my spot with no one around and it is another nice feeling, but that is all. Remember too, that your skin is the body's biggest organ and just LOVES to breathe. So what better way than being free of trappings and being in touch with the environment and Mother Nature.
One more thing: a lot of people have mentioned starting out and how to go about it. It seems one of the easiest ways is to start in your room, usually at night, slipping out of your PJs or boxers under the safety of your bedsheets. Then perhaps in your room, on the computer, reading, studying or whatever. If you have invasive parents, then make sure you can lock your door, or that they knock first (they should do that anyway). Be aware that it is their myth-conceptions about it that has made them afraid, not the harmless reality. Then you could try going to the toilet in the middle of the night nude, or maybe the shower. If they freak, say: "Oh, sorry, forgot my towel." Their reactions will show if it is okay or not to carry on. If not, you may have to wait till they are out. Perhaps you can go skinny-dipping over summer with some of your friends, and if you begin to feel courageous, check out the nearest club and/or nude beach about visiting. Clubs usually have an open-day once a year, or simply ask if it is okay to visit. There may not be many people your age, but the more who try it, the more who read this kind of site and get used to it, the more are willing to try it for themselves. As another guy said: it's your life, don't waste a minute.
I have also noticed that people who come from nudist or nudist-tolerant families are never those who end up in trouble with the law, on detention programs, or dysfunctional later in life. I wonder why???
